Step-by-Step: The Side Braided Ponytail

A well-manicured braid will never pass unnoticed. It adds instant femininity to a look and is a surprisingly easy way to upgrade your ponytail. Here’s how to create the side-braided ponytail in five simple steps.

1

DIVIDE

Start with brushed hair. Divide your hair into two sections at the back of your head, like you are creating a half ponytail. Fasten the upper hair section with a clip and pull the lower section into a low ponytail.

2

A

TTACH

Release the upper, clipped-back section of hair and brush into an off-centre parting. Take the side with the least hair and sweep back to join your ponytail. The other side of your parting is where you will start to create your braid.

3

PLAIT

Make a French braid starting from your forehead and braid it towards the back of your head. Remember to braid tightly against your head so it keeps its shape. Braid the entire hair and attach the end with a hairband.

4

TWIST

Twist the braid around the base of the ponytail and secure with bobby pins.

5

PULL

Loosen the braid with your fingers to create a smoother shape. Finish with hairspray for extra hold.
